Independent information, with clear limits.

First Steps Finland is a free educational prototype designed to help people new to Finland organize practical questions and find official information.

What this site can do

  • Offer general orientation and plain-language preparation prompts.
  • Help you identify which official authority or provider to contact.
  • Provide a simple appointment checklist and common Finnish phrases.
  • Link to public sources that can explain current processes in greater detail.

What this site cannot do

  • It is not an official Finnish government, municipality or public-service website.
  • It does not provide individual legal, immigration, tax, financial, medical or benefits advice.
  • It cannot determine rights, eligibility, deadlines or outcomes for an individual.
  • It does not represent users, submit applications or contact authorities for them.
  • It does not guarantee that every linked page or description remains current.

Use and privacy

The appointment planner runs in the browser. It has no account, contact form, personal-data fields, analytics code or database. Planner selections and checkboxes are not sent to the site owner and are lost when the page is refreshed or closed.

When hosted online, the hosting provider may process technical information such as request logs under its own policies. Read the host’s current privacy information. Do not enter personal, financial, immigration or health details into this prototype.

Sources and corrections

Guides point readers to Finnish authorities and public-service information, especially DVV, Migri, Vero, Kela, Suomi.fi and InfoFinland. Local rules and providers can differ. Official source pages take precedence over this summary.

Page content reviewed 23 October 2026. This is an early free pilot, and it has not received a professional legal review or fluent-speaker review of all translations. Please verify important details directly with the responsible authority.

If you need an individual decision, ask the decision-maker.

Use the official contact details on the authority’s own website. For professional advice, choose a qualified adviser with relevant expertise. This site does not screen or endorse advisers.

Core public information sources: InfoFinland, Suomi.fi, DVV, Migri, Vero, Kela, and local municipality/wellbeing services county websites.
